A Rainy Day in Newquay

If you’re visiting Newquay this year we recommend you bring a swimsuit and a raincoat! The unpredictable weather in the coastal resort isn’t something to worry about though, you can still have a good time in the rain. We’ve made a list of things to do when the famous British weather strikes.

Surf’s Up

If it’s raining you’re going to get wet any way, so why not take a surf lesson! Many of Newquay’s beaches offer lessons with qualified instructors. Find out our very own Captain Howell Davis’ favourite surf spots here.

Explore Blue Reef Aquarium

After visiting Pirate’s Quest take shelter from the rain here where you can find out about the marine life surrounding Newquay’s shores to more exotic waters. Found down on Towan Beach it’s really close to the town centre, you can visit Blue Reef’s website here.

Join a Pirate’s Quest Experience

Embark on an adventure with the Pirate’s Quest crew and learn all about the history of piracy, brave Davy Jones’ Locker and find treasure! Be sure to book online however as we get busy on rainy days! Book a Pirate’s Quest tour here.

Cosy up with a Hot Chocolate

If the rain has got the family feeling a bit down you could always keep warm in one of Newquay’s coastal cafes with a hot chocolate. Extra marshmallows for us please!

Take Your Chances in the Arcades

Avoid the showers and take your chances in one of Newquay’s many arcades, a very traditional seaside activity.

All Aboard the Newquay Road Train

Keep exploring the sights and sounds of the town from the comfort of the Newquay Road Train. Stopping at various locations throughout the town you won’t be able to miss its bright colours. Once aboard be sure to wave to passers by!

Hit a Strike

Get into teams and hit the lanes. Bowling can be a fun activity to do for everyone, there are a number of places in Newquay where you can play a game and grab a bite to eat.

Catch a Film

Check out what’s on here, at the Newquay Lighthouse Cinema, there are often family friendly matinees you can enjoy with a box of popcorn whilst hiding from the British weather.

Enjoy a Cornish Cream Tea

A Cornish Cream Tea is the perfect afternoon activity for a rainy day. Lots of debate surrounds this afternoon treat, just be sure to put the jam on first when in Cornwall!

Visit Trerice Manor

A short drive from Newquay, this old manor house is the closest National Trust property to the town and was an important part of Newquay’s history.
